Reactive power is a way of measuring the percentage of wasted energy(Reactive power) in an electrical system. When electric current is out of phase with voltage, it does no useful work and is considered wasted energy. Inductive loads require reactive power to maintain their magnetic fields and its occurs power loss in the system. Due to these losses include lower voltages and higher conductor size and transformer losses. Utilities who supply the power must compensate for these losses by supplying both active and reactive power.

In case of low power factor, the load current will increase. This high load current causes the following disadvantages in Electrical system. The low power factor is undesirable because it can cause an increase in current, resulting in an increased loss of power system.
